Underground pipelines are the safest mode of transporting natural gas, and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) statistics show that underground pipeline transport natural gas far more safely than ships, railcars or trucks. In the United Sates, the U.S. Department of Transportation is responsible for ensuring safety of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of interstate pipelines.
Energy Transfer has long standing commitments to the safety of people, the environment, and our property and assets. We do this because it makes good business sense, but more importantly, it is the right thing to do. These commitments are held as fundamental core values and are an integral part of us as a partnership and a corporate citizen. Our safety commitment extends to our employees, the general public, and our contractors. With respect to safety performance, our goal is to be among the “best of the best” in our peer group. To achieve this operational excellence, Energy Transfer endeavors to hire and maintain the most qualified and dedicated workforce in the industry and to make safety and safety accountability part of our daily operations. The first step of the safety accountability program is the development of safety standards and expectations. Once developed, these standards and expectations are then clearly communicated to all employees and contractors, who are held to these standards with the expectation that each individual should feel the obligation to make safety the highest priority. For the past five years, we have consistently reached our safety goal by having an employee OSHA recordable safety record that placed us in the top quartile of large midstream companies. While we take great pride in our achievements, we are not satisfied. Energy Transfer has a vision with an end goal of a workplace that achieves an injury and incident free day every day.
Energy Transfer is committed to public safety and the protection of the environment. Energy Transfer and its affiliates are committed to operating our facilities in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and standards. Furthermore, our Environmental Policy Manual actively implements policies, procedures and practices to achieve our goal of full compliance. Our management team is responsible for ensuring that the Environmental Policy Manual is an integral part of our corporate culture in order to better serve the employees, customers, and limited partners of Energy Transfer. We continually seek ways to enhance our operations in the areas of environmental and resource protection and conservation.
